VÖLVA'S JUDGEMENT – A CHILDREN’S OPERA
Experience a true Nordic saga as NJORD 2020 invites you to the children's opera VÖLVA'S JUDGEMENT with the musical theatre company SAUM.
The performance is based on the poem "The Prophecy of the Völva", which is about the mythical Nordic character, Völva. She can look back in time and into the future - and what she sees is chaos and Ragnarok, but also hope and resurrection.
Völva's Judgement is about the current state of the Earth and the opportunities we have to act and trust in the compassion and power to change which we have as humans - abilities which children also possess.
The opera saga is told imaginatively with only a few words alongside genre-defying music from the Norwegian hardanger fiddler Anne Hytta, two classical musicians from Sweden, a singer and percussionist from Denmark and an actor from the Faroe Islands.
REUMERT NOMINATION & SUSTAINABILITY
At the helm is the Reumert-nominated Icelandic composer Hugi Gudmundsson, who has also been nominated for the prestigious Carl Prize for his music for the show.
Völva's Judgement is a raw and eerie performance about greed and change. About a planet under pressure as well as an unrelenting belief in action, where the fear of what is to come turns into hope for the future.
The opera was developed in the municipality of Faxe in collaboration with the Nordic Theatre’s educational platform ACTOR, which has prepared international Nordic teaching material on Nordic identity and sustainability in connection with the performance.
At NJORD 2020, Völva's Judgement is included as part of the Musical Market Day's programme - The Sound of the North Atlantic, which will be held at the cultural center at Nordatlantens Brygge on Saturday, 1st February 2020.
The show is suitable for children from approx. 9 years of age and their families.
