Njord 2016 Dansk

When NJORD Biennale returns in January 2018 it is with something of a scoop as our main composer. The Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir will attend the Biennale as Composer-in-Residence and NJORD 2018 will become the largest presentation of Thorvaldsdottir´s music in Denmark to date.

The prize-winning composer, whose works are performed all over the world by orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Bang on a Can and International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) has, despite her young age, gained international attention and acclaim for her lyrical and forceful music with deep roots in the nature and landscape of Iceland.

Anna Thorvaldsdottir can be said to work in an aesthetic middleground between the symphonic tradition and the conceptual universe of sonic art which often includes a visual component. The  rich and surprising works let us go deep into both sound and ourselves when NJORD Biennale, for four days in January,  will place Thorvaldsdottir´s universe a the center of our own.
