2.1.2018: Support NJORD and New Nordic Art Music!

Support NJORD's crowdfunding effort on booomerang.dk and help the association behind NJORD New Nordic Music Biennale, also called NJORD, ensure an artistically innovative and ambitious biennale that strengthens and develops the new art music scene in the Nordic countries.

What happens when you support NJORD?

You support an association, NJORD, made up of a handful of enthusiastic, creative professionals connected to the Nordic music scene who are all passionate about new Nordic art music. The desire to share this passion means that every other year, NJORD arranges the festival NJORD New Nordic Music Biennale. The biennale unites acclaimed composers and artists in Nordic collaboration on a number of cross-artistic projects in an effort to share new Nordic art music with you!

Your support helps create a strong cross-artistic platform for new Nordic art music. NJORD Biennale wants to be that platform, a platform that strengthens the genre and fosters new creative cooperation between new art music and other art forms across the Nordic countries.

7.12.2017: NJORD 2018 OPENING

Two musical heavyweights, Athelas Sinfonietta and Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir, will perform side by side when NJORD Biennale zooms in om the meeting between music and poetry for the first time this year at NJORD's opening concert in the Assembly Hall at Charlottenborg.

Together with the clarinettist Mathias Kjøller and Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir's stellar Nordic singers the ensemble will perform a poetic concert programme, where words and music let us reflect on life.

The evening continues with the biennale's first late night concert, Late Night I,  celebrating one of the greatest composers in Denmark. The composer Bent Sørensen turns 60 in 2018 and NJORD celebrates this milestone with a concert performed by the piano virtuoso Katrine Gislinge. She will perform Bent Sørensen's new work Fantasia Appassionata and put it in relief through a performance of other pieces for solo piano.

When NJORD Biennale returns in January 2018 it is with something of a scoop as our main composer. The Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir will attend the Biennale as Composer-in-Residence and NJORD 2018 will become the largest presentation of Thorvaldsdottir´s music in Denmark to date.

The prize-winning composer, whose works are performed all over the world by orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Bang on a Can and International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) has, despite her young age, gained international attention and acclaim for her lyrical and forceful music with deep roots in the nature and landscape of Iceland.

Anna Thorvaldsdottir can be said to work in an aesthetic middle ground between the symphonic tradition and the conceptual universe of sonic art, which often includes a visual component. The  rich and surprising works let us go deep into both sound and ourselves when NJORD Biennale, for four days in January,  will place Thorvaldsdottir´s universe at the centre of our own.
