When NJORD Biennale opens on January 28 it is with quite a sensation on the programme. The Finnish ensemble Avanti! visits Denmark for the first time ever - and will play two exclusive concerts in Dansehallerne.

Avanti! Chamber Orchestra is an extraordinary artistic powerhouse - known as one of the best ensembles for contemporary music in the world. Therefore NJORD is very happy and proud to bring the 19 musicians to Copenhagen, to play two very different concerts.

At the opening concert at NJORD on January 28th Avanti! performs together with the French ensemble La Chambre aux echos in the modern oratorio La Passion de Simone, composed by festival composer Kaija Saariaho.

The following day NJORD presents the concert night Light, Darkness & Colours - with the eminent Avanti! Chamber Orchestra and the world-famous cellist Jakob Kullberg as soloist.
On the programme of this unique concert is a series of works by prominent Nordic composers, including Niilo Tarnanen, Hans Peter Stubbe Teglbjærg and Kaija Saariaho, who is the festival composer at NJORD 2016.

NJORD Biennale is Copenhagen's new nordic biennial for contemporary music and contemporary art. In various cross artistic projects, the relationship between the tonal colours of music and the colour tones of visual art are being examined through concerts, exhibits, a separate children´s programme, seminars and lectures.
